Garage Door Sensor Repair in Alva, Aligned and Tested

Sensors that blink, refuse to let the door close or fail to reverse are realigned, rewired or replaced, and tested across the full width of the opening.

Sensors Are the Door's Last Line of Defense

A matched pair of small units near the floor pass an unseen beam across the doorway. When anything interrupts it during closing, the opener is supposed to halt and back up. On a wide opening the beam travels farther, and a nudge or a loose bracket can throw it off.

Most sensor trouble comes down to alignment, dirt, damaged wires or a failed unit. We check each of those, plus the opener's wiring and mounting, then test the reversing response with an object in the path. A door that closes only with the wall button held is a sign that the sensors need attention, not a reason to bypass them.

Sensor Symptoms

  • Door closes only while holding the button

That is the opener's way of saying the sensors do not see each other, and it will not close normally until they do.

  • Blinking lights on one or both units

A blinking or dim indicator usually means misalignment, a loose wire or something blocking the lens.

  • Door fails to reverse

If the door does not reverse on contact or when the beam is broken, the sensors, the force settings or both need attention right away.

How We Repair Them

  1. 1

    Check lenses and aim

Lenses are cleaned, brackets are firmed up and each unit is pointed at its partner across the opening.

  2. 2

    Trace the wiring

We follow the wires back to the opener, looking for pinched, chewed or corroded sections and loose connections.

  3. 3

    Test reversing

The door is closed with an object in the path and with the beam broken, and settings are adjusted until the response is right.

Sensor Questions

Can I disconnect the sensors to get the door working?

Please do not. They protect people, pets and vehicles from a closing door, and a heavy one can do real harm. Bypassing them also leaves the opener without the reversal it was designed to have.

Why would sunlight or dirt affect the sensors?

Strong low sun can wash out a lens, and dust, cobwebs or grime can cover it. Cleaning and shading the lens can solve that, but misaligned brackets are the more common cause, so we check aim before blaming anything else on the list.

Do wide doors need anything special?

The sensors work the same way, but a wide opening gives brackets more room to loosen or get bumped out of line. We check mounting height, bracket firmness and the full beam path, then test the reversal with an object in the way.

Door Refusing to Close?

Tell us what the sensor lights are doing and how the door behaves. That is often enough to say whether it is alignment or something else.
